I didn't make fuck tons of money, but I made some pretty good friends and that, to me, is priceless. I'm still pretty exhausted, so I'll keep this short n' sweet. I have a pic of my table and a flyer for my next exhibit at the end of the month. Come out if you can. I have a feeling this one is going to rock.

<![CDATA[Pick Up The Pieces]]>Sun, 26 May 2013 00:26:25 GMThttp://www.angellaveaux.com/1/post/2013/05/pick-up-the-pieces.htmlI created two more small watercolor pieces for the upcoming show. I like the Trent Reznor portrait the best right now. Hopefully he and Daryl will both find good homes. Prints will be available on Etsy soon.

<![CDATA[A Stitch In Time]]>Sun, 19 May 2013 18:23:32 GMThttp://www.angellaveaux.com/1/post/2013/05/a-stitch-in-time.htmlI have an upcoming show in June (see previous post), so I decided it would be a good idea to create some new pieces to exhibit. This is the first. It's a continuation/variation of a previous theme of mine in an oil painting called "Second Skin", this time done in watercolor on a much smaller scale. I may do more of these if I don't tire from blatantly ripping off Van Gogh.

<![CDATA[Condor Avenue]]>Tue, 02 Apr 2013 23:25:00 GMThttp://www.angellaveaux.com/1/post/2013/04/condor-avenue.htmlI'm a huge Elliott Smith fan (as some of you already know) and for the longest time I wanted to illustrate one of his songs, "Condor Avenue" in particular. Something about the imagery, its darkness, just calls to me. Anyway, I finally found the confidence to actually do it and I finished it last night. Here it is, in watercolor.

Picture
Condor Avenue
"She took the Oldsmobile out past Condor Avenue
And she locked the car and slipped past
Into rhythmic quietude
Lights burning
Voice dry and hoarse
I threw the screen door like a bastard back and forth
The chimes fell over each other
I fell onto my knees
The sound of the car driving off made me feel diseased
A sick shouting like you hear at the fairground
Now I'm picking up to put away anything of yours that's still around
I don't know what to do with your clothes or your letters
It'll make a whisper out of you
She took the Oldsmobile out past Condor Avenue
The fairground's lit
A drunk man sits by the gate she's driving through
Got his hat tipped bottle back in between his teeth
Looks like he's buried in the sand at the beach
I can't think about you driving off to leave barely awake
To take a little nap while the road is straight
I wish that car had never been discovered
They took away the bottle and the hat he was under
That's the one thing that he could never do
And it'll make a whisper out of you
She took the Oldsmobile out past Condor Avenue
Cops were running around the scene
Looking for some kind of clue
They never get uptight when a moth gets crushed
Unless a light bulb really loved him very much
I'm lying down
Blowing smoke from my cigarette
Little whisper smoke signs that you'll never get
You're in your Oldsmobile driving by the moon
Headlights burning bright ahead of you
And someone's burning out, out on Condor Avenue
Trying to make a whisper out of you
What a shitty thing to say
Did you really mean it?
You never said a word to me about what passed between us
So now I'm leaving you alone
You can do whatever the hell you want to
Na, na, na, na, na, na"

<![CDATA[Media Whore ]]>Mon, 04 Mar 2013 01:15:15 GMThttp://www.angellaveaux.com/1/post/2013/03/media-whore.htmlOK, so I've been slacking off lately. It's true. I apologize, mostly to myself. There's no excuse good enough. That being said, I'd like to announce some new shit.

First of all, I've become active again on Tumblr and deviantART. This is good news for two reasons: 1. seeing other people's art always lights a fire under my ass and 2. I have another avenue for exposure. I've really been getting into all the social networks lately. Ironically, the one I used to spend most of my time on, Facebook, has become the least interesting to me.

Going back to other people's art, I went to STAPLE! The Independent Media Expo for the first time yesterday. Talk about over-stimulation! There were so many wonderfully gifted artists there that were, for the most part, very willing to talk about their craft. I learned a lot and I got my fill of inspiration. This is the stash of art I came home with:
I know, right?!? AMAAAAAAAAAAAAZING!!! And this is all I had money for (the rest was spent on new art supplies). I can't wait to go back next year, especially since I kinda wanna get my own booth. I have to check into it first, but I'll keep you posted if I do.

Regarding my own work, I started two new pieces a week or so ago. I finished "Lily" first; "Spider" was completed just about an hour ago. He's literally scanning right now. I'll post her first.
She's for sale in my Etsy shop. Prints are also available.
And here's "Spider":
He's not available anywhere yet, because he's a birthday gift to a friend, but I imagine prints will be up in my shop soon.
Other than that, uh, hmmm. Oh, the Valentine's Day cards went over real well and I started a new sketch today. Hopefully I'll have something new to show you this week. I better, since I just spent a fuckton of money on new supplies at Jerry's Artarama!

XO,
Angel Laveaux

P.S. If you want to keep up with me online (besides here), you can follow me at these fine places, with more to come soon, I am sure:

Etsy
Facebook
Twitter
Wordpress
Tumblr
deviantART

(And these are just the ones I'm willing to share!)

<![CDATA[Lovely]]>Mon, 14 Jan 2013 06:11:02 GMThttp://www.angellaveaux.com/1/post/2013/01/lovely.htmlHoly shit, I haven't been here in a month!?! Well, I have been preoccupied with my Wordpress and, actually, I have been painting a bit. Let's see... There was the watercolor I did for my parents for Christmas ("Love At First Sight"), then "Dita Von Teese" and today I finished "I Heart You" (all pictured below). I was going to use Dita's portrait as the basis of my handmade Valentine's Day cards, but then had a change of heart (heh). Instead I am going to use the latter once I add some mystery components to it. I will also be offering them for sell in my Etsy shop. If you're interested, stay tuned for details, as they say.

Other than that, there's not much to say. I am expecting a late Christmas present from my beloved tomorrow, a Google Nexus 10 tablet. SQUEE!!! I am so excited!!! It's been on back order for weeks. Hopefully it will guide me to new, exciting things. I feel a lot of change in the air...

XO,
Angel Laveaux

<![CDATA[New Digs]]>Wed, 12 Dec 2012 02:42:33 GMThttp://www.angellaveaux.com/1/post/2012/12/new-digs.htmlYou might notice some changes around here. While updating my cousin's web site, Mandy Gor Art, I was inspired to spruce up my own digs a bit. Both projects are sure to keep me up late, but that's fine. I'm proud of my work in progress, even if it is just the mundane businessy type. By the way, I promise to get back to the drawing board soon. Sorry, been kinda blah lately. Anyway, check out the new format and check out Mandy's wonderful art. I'll also be setting her up with her very own Etsy store soon, too.
