Take Stephen King, for instance. I know he's not an "artist" in the graphic sense, but he definitely understands rejection - AND is able to use his wicked sense of humor to deal with it (or did in the past anyway; I don't think he has to worry about it anymore). I remember reading a particularly funny anecdote he wrote about his early days (probably in On Writing), something about nailing his rejection letters to the wall and eventually having to replace the nail with a spike because it could no longer support the weight of the letters. He also said, “Go then, there are other worlds than these” (The Gunslinger ).
So, off I go. The next thing on my agenda is the Last Act Theatre Company’s party under the stars, a fundraiser celebrating one year of stellar theatre in Austin. I have a ton of work to do until then. I'm hoping to sell lots of my t-shirts and tons of jewelry inspired by my art that was made by the wonderfully gifted Sarah Meier. I will also have at least one piece up for auction. Just for exhibit, I'm taking the Poe brothers (Edgar & Allan), Ashtray Heart and the tiny anatomical heart painting that I did for "Upon A Midnight Dreary", which actually became a companion piece for Ashtray. As far as art, I don't know what else I will bring. I'm getting more and more excited as the day draws near. I'd love to see you there. Come and say 'hello' and maybe stop by for a drink!
